In addition to her work at Shades of You, Shades of Me, Shonita is a consulting advocate for families. Her clients often struggle with the criminal justice system, foster care system, and other governmental organizations. Shonita helps her clients overcome the hurdles that accompany these complex institutions. Her work supports the needs of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated parents, as well as family reunification.

Shonita has personal experience with many of the systems she helps her clients with today. Her childhood, marred by neglect and abuse, caused her own eventual placement into foster care. A gifted student, Shonita graduated from high school at just 16 years old. However, she struggled to find stability and purpose in life. 

Shonita overcame the challenges of her past and now helps her community in many ways. She holds multiple prestigious community leadership roles within the state of Wisconsin. Shonita is currently the Legislative Co-Chair for Postpartum Support International - Wisconsin. In 2017, she became the first African-American woman elected chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin Women's Caucus. She served as Caucus chair for four years. She is the mother to three beautiful children.
